Lindsey Vonn Assured of Being 'in prime form' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of securing a place on the rostrum for the fourth time in her last five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup top-three result.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Returning to the iconic venue for the first occasion in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I didn't quite have the right line on the first jump," Vonn remarked. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm satisfied with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn ended her career in February 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are highly promising.

She boasts an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"At the Olympics, I will be where I need to be," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup campaign features a nine more events taking place before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
