Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.
He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, most notably the soft-colored suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."
This news arrives less than a month after he presented his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.
He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he began working on pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her American tour following her marriage.
Following a profession lasting half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.
The industry says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
