The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features several key changes:

  • Every squad has just eight real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for players seeking different ways to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Community Input

All that said, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
