The United Kingdom Set to Employ Immobilized Russia's Funds to Fund the Ukrainian Military Campaign

The British government is set to progress with using the entire amount of immobilized Russian assets to aid the Ukrainian war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has declared.

In a collective announcement, the heads of state of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany emphasized that this coordinated action would increase strain on Russian President Vladimir Putin and urge the Russian Federation to come to the table.

They added that the decision would be implemented in tight collaboration with the United States.

British penalties have blocked over £25bn of Russia's resources since Russia initiated its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. But, previously, funds allocated to the Ukrainian government using Russian funds had only been drawn from profits and interest earned on them.

Sir Keir told President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were in agreement in their desire to push forward toward utilizing the full value of the frozen Russian sovereign holdings to halt hostilities.

He stated that additional restrictions soon would apply more pressure on the Russian government.

This announcement follows European Union leaders gathered in Copenhagen recently to debate employing immobilized Russia's assets for a €140bn credit to the Ukrainian nation.

In the previous month, US President Donald Trump called on G7 allies to seize or utilize frozen Russia's assets, based on media sources.

The worth of immobilized Russia's holdings in the EU is calculated to be almost €211bn.
